Why you need Rottweiler German Shepherd Mix

    The Rottweiler German Shepherd Mix is a hybrid dog gotten by crossing the German shepherd and the Rottweiler – the so called Rottweiler Mix. The life expectancy of the dog is about 10 to 13 years and the dog is commonly sought after and used for guard work and protection. Some feel this is an aggressive mix but if this dog is breed properly, it would definitely be a good companion.

    The German Shepherd

    A German cavalry officer named Stephanitz wanted to breed a superior herding dog during the 19th and early 20th century. He wanted the dog to have an intelligence, ability and athleticism. He was able to succeed with German Shepherd and during that time, the demand for the herding dog reduced. Due to his belief that his dog will still be a successful as well as in demand working dog, he used his connections to get the police and military to try the dog out. He was complete success and still is till date.

    Nowadays, it is used as a working dog in many different areas. The dog is very intelligent and can be trained easily, loyal to his owner and protective. This dog is not only good for working but is also great family dog because you can give him activity as well as metal stimulation needed. German Shepherd does not like to be left alone for a long period of time and can also suffer from separation anxiety. The dog easily play with his family and also show affection but wary around strangers.

    The Rottweiler

    This breed of dog comes from a mastiff-type dog, the Romans brought with them to Germany for driving castles. Later on, the mastiffs bred with the local dogs. After about six centuries in South Germany, during an excavation the remaining of a red tiled villa was discovered and this town was renamed das Rote Wil because of the discovery. These dogs were used to drove cattle and for protection against thieves when the castles were sold for a long period of time. They also used them for pulling carts of meat. Whenever rails came the breed almost disappears but in the wake of 20th century breeders observed and save them. Over the years, they have been used in police work as well as working dog. In the late 1920s, they were brought to America and became very popular. Unfortunately, the breed got a bad reputation because of the temperament as well as health problems and this reduces their demand.

    A big thank to the breeders of nowadays for turning this negative effect around and also turning the bad belief people have against this great dog. The dog is confident, calm, brave but not aggressive unless he observes there is a threat to his people. He tends to be offensive with strangers; he is trainable, intelligent and can also have a stubborn streak. The female are affectionate and can be controlled easily than the male.

    Temperament

    The Rottweiler German Shepherd Mix is full of energy, power and intelligent. He needs to be active and tends to be protective of his family. While he is wary of people he is not aware he is not aggressive. The dog is very loyal and tends to form very close bonds. The dog tends to be less aggressive if he is properly trained and you ensure he socialize with people. However, the temperament would increase if his family comes across any threat.

    The Rottweiler German Shepherd Mix is a good watchdog and would bark so as to let you know whenever someone broke into your home. The dog will also act to protect the family if they encounter any threat. He is otherwise an occasional barker unless the German shepherd side is stronger then it will be more often. He does better in colder climates than in warm ones and would need to be feed properly on daily basis. However, he is prone to obesity if the food is not watched.
