Bed Bug Bites vs Mosquito Bites: Tips and Tricks on How to Spot the Difference

There are thousands of species of mosquitoes out there, but about 200 of them live in the United States.

In addition to mosquitos, we also have bed bugs. But how do you know which ones have been biting you all night?

We’ll break down some of the key differences between the two so that you can figure out which pest you’re dealing with.

    Bed Bug Bites

When you have a bed bug bite, you’ll normally find that the skin is irritated and itchy. However, some people may have a more painful reaction and might notice more swelling.

If you get a bed bug bite, you normally won’t get just one. Instead, you’ll have them in clusters, with normally five bites in each cluster. They’ll also normally have a blister on the top of them.

If you do notice that you have bed bug bites, make sure that you contact a professional or try and get rid of them yourself. For tips on how to do that, make sure that you check out this link: https://www.custombedbug.com/blog/5-effective-ways-to-get-rid-of-bed-bugs-fast-in-portland-oregon/

    Mosquito Bites

One thing that makes mosquitos different from bed bugs is that only the females will bite you, and they normally live and nest in water. So if you are noticing bites but don’t live near any large bodies of water, you’re probably dealing with bed bugs.

If a mosquito bites you, you’ll have a small, red, and raised bite on you. This is most people’s reaction to mosquito saliva, and it can be really itchy. However, some people are more sensitive and allergic to them.

While bed bugs will normally bite your lower legs or arms, mosquitos will bite you anywhere. However, they also won’t bite you through your clothes.

While bed bug bites will normally be clustered together, it’s possible to just have one mosquito bite. Or twenty of them scattered all over your body. There is normally no pattern to mosquito bites.

    How to Treat the Bites

Now that you’ve figured out which bite you’re dealing with, you can learn how to treat them.

Even if they look similar, you can use different methods to help ease some of the discomfort.

    Bedbug Bites

If you have bedbug bites, you can use a cold compress or an anti-itch cream to help treat it.

However, while these will ease your symptoms, you’ll need to make sure that you get rid of them from your home as well, or they’ll just keep biting you.

    Mosquito Bites

Mosquito bites normally don’t need any treatment.

You can use an ice pack to help get rid of some of the swelling, but just make sure you don’t itch it and make it worse.
