    What is a Chemical Peel?

A Chemical Peel is a treatment that will dramatically improve the condition of your skin. Therapists who perform chemical peels are able to treat your face, neck, or hands. This type of treatment can be used to treat a variety of skin conditions such as acne and can reduce spots, freckles, and dark patches. Chemical peels can also reduce the appearance of sun damage and mild scars.

During treatment, a solution will be applied to your skin. After application, your skin will blister and will eventually peel off. You’ll then be left with a new layer of skin that is smoother and healthy looking.

Chemical peels are also used to get rid of fine lines and wrinkles. If you have wrinkles under your eyes and around your mouth, a chemical peel may be a good solution for you. After your skin peels, it is likely to be less wrinkly then your old skin.

Look After Your Skin After A Chemical Peel

After you’ve had a chemical peel treatment, it’s good to be aware that your skin may be more sensitive to the sun. This is because the top layer of skin has been peeled off, leaving you with a layer that isn’t used to the sun and is, therefore, more sensitive. This is only temporary; your skin will soon adjust. In the meantime, you should use sunscreen every day. Choose a sunscreen that can protect against the sun’s UVA and UVB rays. It will say ‘broad-spectrum” on the bottle if this is the case. Also, choose an SPF rating of above 30 and limit the time you spend in the sun. Try wearing a wide-brimmed hat and stay out of the sun during mid-day and mid-afternoon as this is the hottest part of the day.

    Who are Chemical Peels For?

Patients who have either fair or light skin will see the most benefit from having a chemical peel. Those with darker skin may also get good results, but it will depend on the type of problem that is being treated. People with dark skin are more likely to be left with an uneven skin tone after they’ve had the treatment.

Conditions Chemical Peels May Not be Suitable for

If you have severe signs of aging or sun damage that you would like to treat, then a chemical peel may not be the right treatment for you. Skin sags, bulges, and deep-set wrinkles don’t respond very well to the chemical peel treatment. If you have these types of issues, talk to your dermatologist about cosmetic surgical procedures. They may recommend a procedure such as a laser resurfacing, facelift, eyelid or brow lift, or a soft tissue filler.
