What is a Periodontist?


    Taking care of your teeth is an essential part of your everyday health. Oral hygiene should be practiced on a daily basis and at least twice a day. This includes mouthwash, brushing, and flossing. All of this has to be done to keep your mouth in tip-top shape.     What Is Periodontal Disease


    The other name for the periodontal disease is gum disease. What happens is the plaque that is on your teeth gets thicker because you go several days without brushing. Also, your gum around your front teeth will start to recede. Not only that your gums will start turning color. They will go from a healthy pink to a purplish color or dark red. Also, you will have very bad breath and will definitely notice that your teeth will either feel loose from your gums or they will fall out altogether.


    Periodontal Implants


    If you have periodontal disease, you may have to wait until a dryer your treatment before you can partake in getting dental implants. Once the treatment is done, the periodontist needs to see if there is a way to infuse the teeth into the bone so that you can have teeth again. If you are a good candidate for the implants, you will finally get your smile back. However, you do need to take good care of your implants because there are diseases can mess them up. They are known as peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis. Both of these diseases have the symptom of gum inflammation around the implant. However, the mucositis does not have bone loss, unlike the implants.     Periodontal Therapy  


    In this type of therapy, the goal is to help restore the gum tissue back to a healthy condition. If you have plaque and tartar under your gum line, then you need your teeth scaled to get rid of it. If you have lost some of your gums, then you need to get that replaced to protect the tooth roots that are still present. The periodontist will either use gum tissue you already have from your mouth or get gum tissue that has been donated to for the job. At this point, your gums are going to undergo plastic surgery in order to look right inside if your mouth. That way when you smile, they look natural instead implanted in. You can get crowns in your mouth as the next step in the therapy. The gums are moved back to reveal that you now have teeth and to make sure your smile is not all gums. You are looking at having your crowns implanted in a professional way that you can not tell that you the implants. When everything is done, your smile will look so natural.


    Periodontal Disease Prevention


    If you want to know how to prevent gum disease, it is quite simple. All you need to do is brush your teeth twice a day and floss also. You also need to get your teeth checked out as often as the dentist recommends. When you stay in the habit of keeping up your oral hygiene, you are less likely to get all of the different diseases that can cause chaos with your choppers. Use cavity prevention toothpaste and mouthwash every time you brush. The best thing to do when brushing your teeth is to do it for at least two and a half to three minutes, giving every area of your teeth a good scrubbing. Make sure to get in between your teeth really good with the floss. Brushing your teeth in this manner can keep your mouth healthy. Thee would be no need for your teeth to go through any type of therapy. Also, make sure you have a good toothbrush that will reach to the back of your mouth for those hard to reach areas.
